Military Applications of 3D Sound

Interestingly, K.UMĒH is paving a path also explored by the military, which has utilized 3D sound in various applications. His contribution to integrating this technology into music places him at the forefront of a unique fusion of art and science, expanding the possibilities of sound in popular music.

SCI Technology, Inc. has been the intercommunications system manufacturer since 1993 on the AH-64D and AH-64E models of the Apache helicopter. By creating a clear digital audio system, SCI has significantly increased the pilot’s ability to maintain situational awareness.

Over the years, US Army Aviation has evolved into a fast-paced, multi-role (Attack and Reconnaissance) resource to the ground force commander. The addition of even more communications systems and the lack of an evolved human-to-machine interface convinced SCI to create a true 3-Dimensional (3D) Audio capability with the FireComm® Intercommunications System.

Spatial separation between audio outputs with 3D Audio will revolutionize the way a pilot perceives the world. 3D Audio will allow a pilot to respond to several audio inputs simultaneously. No more loss of situational awareness due to task saturation from multiple radios being received simultaneously.

3D audio provides the distinct capability to hear and discern what is vitally important and what is to be ignored. An Army investigation of an August 2017 crash that killed five soldiers during nighttime training off Hawaii found that the pilots had experienced “spatial disorientation,” meaning they couldn’t determine their position and altitude relative to the earth’s surface. Pilots experienced the same spatial disorientation issues during a 2015 Black Hawk helicopter crash during night training flight off the coast of Florida, which killed four Louisiana National Guardsmen and seven special operations Marines.

“There’s nothing you can see outside. It’s just pitch black. There’s nothing that can give you any information,” Jones said. “The forces they’re feeling from their position relative to the gravitational forces and how the forces of the movement of the aircraft work, they didn’t even realize that they were in as bad a shape as they were.” In April 2024, after 12 crashes and 10 deaths over a six-month span, the Army ordered additional safety training across aviation units to “reinforce” pilot skills, including spatial awareness.

K.UMĒH’s Transition into SPORTS TECHNOLOGY and Spatial Awareness

K.UMĒH is more than just an artist; he is a visionary transforming the soundscapes of our cultural experience. With SD3 and his innovative projection, he invites supporters into a multi-dimensional world where music transcends auditory boundaries. As he continues to influence the music industry and culture at large, K.UMĒH represents a new frontier in the pursuit of artistic expression through sports technology.

He knows there is power in athletics and knows exactly how to leave his lasting legacy throughout the playing field. K.UMĒH’s transition into sports technology is an eye opener of awareness for the culture, as he works on his first athletic tech product featuring 3D Applications, AR/VR technology, involving the element of spatial awareness. The future is bright for this pioneering artist, and one can only imagine what sonic marvels he will unveil next.

What is Sports Technology

The dictionary definition of Sports Technology refers to the use of technology to improve athletic performance, training, analysis, and overall sports experience. It encompasses a wide range of areas, from wearable technology and data analysis to virtual reality and e-gaming.

The internet, smartphones, social media – all of these are examples of how technology has already become an integral part of our lives. And it turns out, sports tech is not just about gadgets and gizmos, but rather a vast and ever-expanding industry that encompasses everything from garment technology, competitor data analysis to AI-generated game plans.

Sporting technologies are man-made methods, developed to reach human interests or goals in or relating to a particular sport. Technology in sports is a technical means by which athletes attempt to improve their training and competitive surroundings in order to enhance their overall athletic performance. One of K.UMĒHs goals is to expand the intensity and alignment of athletics using 3D elements of technology. The table below highlights recent developments in the world involving 3D Sound and K.UMĒH’’s impact on music.

THE GRAMMY AWARD

The Grammy Award for Best Immersive Audio Album: until 2018: called “Best Surround Sound Album”  was first awarded in 2005, as the first category in a new “Surround Sound” field.
