The technical side of the process remains disciplined—recording through a Neumann U87 microphone, a Neve 1073 preamp, and a Universal Audio Apollo Twin X before refining performances alongside longtime recording and mix engineer Orlando—but the ideas themselves are rarely overplanned. They’re discovered. It’s a creative method that requires trust, not only in the music but in yourself. For Michael K, the goal has never been to prove how quickly he can write a song. It’s to preserve the honesty of the moment before it has a chance to disappear.
