When you sit down with CJ Parker, you quickly realize you’re talking to one of the most underrated voices in today’s music scene. Known for commanding stages from intimate spaces to massive arenas, CJ has already sung for tens of thousands- including iconic moments at lowa games during Caitlin Clark’s era – yet somehow, he’s still flying just under the radar. With the release of his new single Shine, that’s about to change.
I asked him how it feels to finally release a song that feels like his statement piece.
CJ: “It feels incredible. Shine is more than just a track – it’s a declaration. It’s me stepping into my own light, and hopefully reminding other people to do the same.”
It’s not just confidence CJ backs it up with raw talent. His blend of soul, R&B, and pop feels both timeless and fresh. I| wondered where that inspiration comes from.
CJ: “Life experiences, plain and simple. I’ve had moments where I doubted myself, and moments where music pulled me back up. I wanted Shine to capture that energy – that reminder that your light is worth showing, no matter what”
And while the industry can sometimes overlook authentic voices, CJ embraces being the underdog.
CJ: “1 think people are starting to catch on, but I’ve never minded being underestimated. It just makes the wins that much sweeter. Every stage I step on, every song I put out, is proof that I belong here.”
Before vwrapping, I asked CJ what he hopes listeners walk away with after hearing Shine.
CJ: “I want them to feel empowered. I want them to dance, to vibe, but also to walk away knowing they matter. That they can shine too.”
With Shine now streaming on all platforms, one thing is certain: CJ Parker won’t be slept on for much longer.
