One of the largest real estate empires in the former British colony was run by Hong Kong tycoon Lee Shau Kee, who passed away. He was ninety-seven.

According to the business he created, Lee passed away quietly on Monday night as his loved ones were by his side. The reason of death was not stated.

From 1976 to 2019, Lee served as the chairman and managing director of Henderson Land Development Co. Ltd. His sons, Peter Lee and Martin Lee, who served as the company’s chairmen, succeeded him.

Lee was one of the major philanthropists who helped Hong Kong and mainland China grow, much like other Hong Kong tycoons. He received the Grand Bauhinia Medal from the Hong Kong government in 2007 in appreciation of his exceptional contributions to community service and education.

John Lee, the leader of Hong Kong, sent his sympathies for the tycoon’s passing and commended him for being a superb businessman and leader. Lee emphasized his assistance in developing talent and his kind donations to several universities in mainland China and Hong Kong.
