Miami, FL — Israeli-American rapper “Berry Kush” was taken into custody late Tuesday night following an altercation outside a private fundraising event hosted by a local chapter of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), according to police reports.
Witnesses say the confrontation began after Berry was denied entry to the event where he had reportedly hoped to speak with attendees. A verbal dispute with an unnamed AIPAC member escalated into a physical altercation in the parking lot, leaving the man with minor injuries, according to a police spokesperson.
Berry was booked on charges of simple assault and disorderly conduct and released on bail early Wednesday morning. His attorney, characterized the incident as “a heated disagreement that got out of hand,” adding that her client “denies any premeditated intent to cause harm.”
The rapper has been an outspoken critic of AIPAC’s lobbying influence, often addressing the topic on social media, where fans and critics alike have sparred over his stance given his own Israeli heritage.
AIPAC has not issued an official statement on the incident. A hearing is scheduled for later this month.
