They say age is just a number—and this month, two legendary performers are proving it in unforgettable fashion. Music Icons Cher and Diana Ross Make Must-See Television Appearances This Month, stepping into the spotlight on shows often associated with much younger generations and reminding audiences why true stardom never fades.

Cher Makes History on Saturday Night Live

When Cher takes the stage as the musical guest on Saturday Night Live this Saturday, she won’t just be performing—she’ll be making history. At 79, Cher becomes the second-oldest musical guest in the show’s more than 50-year run. The only artist older to hold that distinction was legendary ragtime pianist Eubie Blake, who appeared at age 92 in 1979 alongside Gregory Hines.

Unlike Blake’s late-career revival sparked by the Broadway hit Eubie!, Cher’s story is one of constant reinvention. For over six decades, she has remained a cultural force—never far from a charting song, a film role, a TV moment, or a sold-out tour. Adding to this milestone moment, the Recording Academy recently announced that Cher will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Special Merit Awards on Jan. 31, just ahead of the Grammy Awards ceremony.

This appearance also marks Cher’s second time as an SNL musical guest. Her first came in November 1987, shortly before the release of Moonstruck, when she delivered memorable performances of “We All Sleep Alone” and “I Found Someone.”

Just days later, another icon will command one of television’s biggest nights. Diana Ross is set to headline Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest on Dec. 31, performing live from Times Square as the clock nears midnight—arguably the most-watched moment of the broadcast. At 81, Ross continues to radiate the same elegance, charisma, and star power that first made her a household name in the 1960s.

Ross’s career milestones stretch back to August 1964, when The Supremes topped the Hot 100 with “Where Did Our Love Go,” marking her first No. 1 hit. Almost exactly one year later, Cher achieved her own chart-topping debut with Sonny & Cher’s “I Got You Babe.” From different paths, both artists helped define pop music’s golden eras—and continue to shape its present.
