Two decades nearly to the day since his previous album, Will Smith has revealed that his new one, Based On A True Story, will be released on March 28.
In addition to the album cover and track list, which is broken up into “episodes” rather than songs, the seasoned superstar posted the announcement on Instagram on Friday, March 14. Smith’s son Jaden, Teyana Taylor, and DJ Jazzy Jeff are among the featured artists.
“It is official!” Smith wrote a caption for the image. “On March 28, my new album, Based On A True Story, will be released. TWO WEEKS! Hit the presave button. I have been working on this project for a while, and I can not wait to share it with everyone.
Lost and Found, Smith’s final album, came out on March 29, 2005. See the post below for the album announcement.
Smith disclosed last month that he and Prince had once spoken about starting an entertainment business with Jay-Z, but the renowned musician died a few hours afterward.
Will disclosed on the Broken Record podcast with Justin Richmond that he had met Biggie Smalls just hours before Prince’s death in 1997, in addition to having that moment with him before to his death in 2016.
He went on to say, “I spoke with Prince eight hours prior to his passing.” He was pitching when he called. He suggested that JAY-Z, him, and I launch an entertainment business. He added that he wanted to do it after speaking with Jay. After our conversation that evening, he left in the morning.
Since then, Will Smith and JAY-Z have collaborated in a number of ways, but it has been through the merger of their individual businesses rather than working under a single umbrella.
Smith’s Overbrook Entertainment and Jay’s Roc Nation teamed together in 2020 to adapt Emmett Till and his mother Mamie Till Mobley’s narrative for the big film.
On August 28, 1955, the 65th anniversary of Till’s murder at the hands of two white men in Mississippi, the limited series was revealed. At the Chicago teen’s funeral, Mobley requested that the casket be left open so that guests may witness the brutalization and mutilation of her son. Till’s passing significantly influenced the 1960s civil rights movement.
Additionally, the two entertainment titans made an investment in Landis Technologies, a firm that seeks to assist thousands of tenants in becoming homeowners, in 2021.
A group of investors, including Roc Nation and Smith’s Dreamers VC, assisted Landis in raising more than $165 million. The money infusion will be used to buy roughly 1,000 residences. Low-income families will subsequently be able to rent the house from the company until they are eligible for a mortgage.
